Michael Jackson’s Anti Gravity Boots
So I haven’t found a more promising pair of anti gravity boots yet, but I just stumbled across something very awesome: the shoes Michael Jackson wore to perform the dance move that allowed him the lean forward to a forty five degree angle. I hadn’t really thought about it much before, but they were in fact special shoes and not just his ability to do incredible dance moves. The way people found out about the way this works (at least from I can tell) is that he actually filed a patent after creating the boots and people found them on an online patent database. Here is a link to the patent.
The way that it works is with a pair of small hitches poking up on the stage that look like the head of a screw. The person doing the dance move wears the anti gravity boots specially designed (and patented) for this that have a small gap in the heal capable of engaging with the hitch. The hitches can be raised up through the holes when necessary so that they don’t pose a tripping hazard until necessary for the dance move. So basically all the happens is the dancer goes to the necessary place with the small hitches on stage, slides his or her foot forward onto the hitch so that it engages and locks in properly, and then he can lean forward as far as he is physically possible. A pretty simple concept, but an amazing looking dance move. Here is a link to a video of it in case you haven’t seen it for awhile.

So this wasn’t exactly what I am looking for in terms of going without gravity (I’m thinking more along the lines of bounciness), but these are some pretty amazing anti gravity boots. Particularly because they accomplish the task they were created for so perfectly; it pretty much looks like and seems like performing a magic trick. I’m not sure if I have the performance flair to pull off a stunt like this even if I did decide to make a pair, but maybe the search for a lack of gravity needs to veer slightly outside of the box. I’m going to keep looking and see what else I can come up with.
While I’m searching, I’m probably going to have to look a little more into some of Michael Jackson’s other amazing dance moves (particularly the moon walk) and maybe, at the more scientific end of the spectrum, the boots astronauts wear when they are actually experiencing anti gravity in space. I’ll go ahead and post the information that I find and please let me know if you know of any other fun anti gravity stuff worth looking into.
