About

Growing up, one of the coolest toys around were the moon shoes made by Nickelodeon.  I can still remember the commercial (here’s the link on YouTube – oh, the nineties).  Somehow that commercial made them really seem like anti gravity boots; I could imagine strapping them onto my feet and it feeling like I had just stepped onto the moon.  Unfortunately I never managed to get a pair myself, but luckily I found a pair in my best friend’s garage a couple years later and got my first experience of walking on the moon.

Needless to say, the experience was slightly less exciting than the weightless feeling I was expecting, but they were still a lot of fun.  After coming across an add for a newer version of this type of shoe I decided it would be fun to do a little research into what anti gravity boots are like since I first saw them bouncing around on that great Nickelodeon commercial.  My guess is that they have come a long way since then, but considering I’m too old to wear moon shoes and I don’t have children yet I’m slightly out of touch with the toy world.

On this site I’m going to go ahead and post the information I find about these awesome toys from the kind that I saw when I was a kid to what is available now.  Knowing myself, I’m guessing that this will probably veer off into things like the actual boots that are worn on the moon and maybe some other ways of experiencing a lack of gravity like on the plane that can simulate what it’s like in space by dive bombing (sounds pretty interesting to say the least).

Looking quickly into the original moon shoes reminds me that they were actually released after being on Double Dare in the 1990s.  It’s amazing how thinking about this now still makes me remember how incredibly cool these were and how I immediately wanted to be strapping an anti gravity boot onto my foot.  So now seems as good a time as any to relive that fun and see what some of the newer versions of the toy are like (I had never even heard of Air Kicks Anti-Gravity Boots until I just plugged the search in and they look pretty awesome).  So I hope you enjoy the site and the fun of reliving the excitement over that first awesome pair of moon shoes.
